Series 7 License
A Series 7 broker is a stock broker. The financial services industry requires a prospective broker be sponsored by a stock brokerage firm and complete a series of steps to obtain her broker's license. The Series 7 license may be required for several types of jobs in the financial services. A Series 7 license allows you to place trades on behalf of your brokerage clients. You cannot work as a broker without one. An approved financial services company or self-regulated organization (SRO) must sponsor you to take the Series 7 exam. Once you become a licensed broker, you do not have to take the exam again. However, if terminated, you have two years to gain employment at another firm. • The Series 7 license is awarded to an investment professional when he or she passes the General Securities Representative Exam (more commonly known as the Series 7 examination).
