Probation Officer Requirements
Probation officers play an important role in the judicial system. In fact, the entire goal of the correctional system is to “correct” the actions of those who break the law and hopefully make them into productive citizens; thus, in many ways, they are responsible for the successful reformation of criminals under their watch. It follows that probation officer requirements can be strict. Probation officers must be willing and able to handle heavy caseloads, work with dangerous persons, and go the extra mile to help rectify complex situations. Most probation officers carry heavy caseloads which can be extremely stressful. This situation can also make it difficult to get an accurate assessment of your parolees on behalf of the courts. A probation officer must be able to work hard and sometimes at the sacrifice of personal time.
