California Real Estate License

California Real Estate License

California Department of Real Estate is the state agency responsible for administering license examinations, issuing real estate licenses, regulating real estate licensees, and qualifying subdivision offerings. The DRE is part of the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency. It is headquartered in Sacramento and has district offices in Oakland, Fresno, Los Angeles, and San Diego. As of June 30, 2010, the DRE has 341 authorized positions and there are approximately 435,865 total real estate licensees in California as of October 2011. California Department of Real Estate statistics show that the number of real estate licenses has plateaued. But even though the number of licensees has decreased for a fourth consecutive month, the total remains close to record levels.
