Juvenile Probation Officer Jobs

Juvenile probation officers (JPOs) monitor the behavior of youthful offenders in the community and encourage them toward a law-abiding lifestyle. JPOs need a wide variety of skills in order to fulfill their job requirements. These include specific personality, educational, training and other skill sets which will make them effective juvenile probation officers as they interact with clients and their families. Most states require a four-year degree in a related field such as juvenile studies, psychology, criminal justice or social work. Related experience or a master's degree further benefits candidates who apply for JPO positions. Experience may include substance abuse treatment, investigations, pretrial services or other corrections work.
